2010 Events and Activities

April 30, 2010 — Schoharie County Historical Society Annual Meeting at 7:00PM in the Old Stone Fort Badgley Annex. The brief meeting will be followed by speaker Mary Jeanne Bialis discussing the topic Trunks & Travels: A 19th Century Journey in NYS. This "Speakers in the Humanities" lecture is made possible through support of the NY Council for the Humanities, a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. This event is FREE and open to the public.

May 1, 2010 — Old Stone Fort Museum Complex and Library opens for the season with a MILITIA DAY and SCOUT DAY. All Girl, Boy, Cub and adult Scouts, wearing a uniform piece will be admitted at a reduced rate of $4 for adults and $1 for school age children. The first 50 scouts will receive a FREE Stone Fort patch. Activities throughout the day: volunteer militia, schoolmarm, Boy Scout memorabilia exhibit in honor of 100 years of Boy Scouts and a visit from Lord Baden Powell, the founder of Boy Scouts, at noon, 1 & 2PM.

May 30, 2010 — Decoration Day — Come learn about the origins of Memorial Day with a flag ceremony, cemetery tours from 1-7PM, and procession through the Old Stone Fort Cemetery at 6PM. Outside activities are FREE. Touring the Old Stone Fort is $5 for adults, $4.50 for seniors, and $1.50 for ages 5-17. Time TBA.

June 23, 2010 — Strawberry Festival at the Old Stone Fort Museum Complex 7-9PM. Enjoy some music by the Knox Traditional Strings and strawberry shortcake on a summers evening. Cost $6.

July 4, 2010 — Independence Day at the Old Stone Fort 10AM-4PM. Some of the activities are: Liberty Pole demonstration, Volunteer Militia, historical readings and ceremonies. All outdoor activities are free.

October 9&10 — History Fair at the Old Stone Fort Museum Complex. All eras, all interests. Some of the activities: re-enactors, spinning, weaving and natural dyeing, gas engines, historians, museum displays, children’s games, music and food.
Admission $7 for adults, FREE for children.
